Description

An 18th Century Lignum Vitae Pestle and Mortar.

The pestle with a rounded and ringed top, above the shaped and waisted handle, spreading into a ringed collar, and thence the grinding body, tapering outward and downward to the rounded bottom. The mortar with an outward rolled rim, above the cylindrical body, decorated with a raised and line edged banding. The body curving into a socle, and thence the ogee profile circular plinth base.

Date circa 1770.
