Description

A Georgian period mercury wheel barometer. A mahogany case with an architectural pediment and brass central finial. Marquetry shell inlays to the case. A long engraved silvered dial. The main dial is engraved 'GRASSI & FONTANA EXETER' with central engraving. Circa 1820.

Grassi & Fontana of Exeter are recorded in Banfields 'Barometer Makers and Retailers' book as working from 1815.
