A majestic Japanese Satsuma dish by Kinkozan, painted by Seishu and dating from the Meiji-Period, (1868-1912). The scene, showing the Shogunal procession to the Nikko Toshogu Shrine, is framed by a stunning cobalt blue and Gold border decorated with miniature, intricately painted butterflies and flowers.
Interestingly, we had the text inscribed on the fan (on the reverse of the plate) and it reads:
"This work is crafted with supreme precision and detail, while the craftsmanship in gold gilding demanded the utmost attention. After several failed attempts at firing in the kiln, the workshop has for the first time succeeded in creating this work, with a glistening finish to appreciate and admire. Kinkozan"
