Elegant early C19th George IV period rosewood sewing or work table of Gillows design.

Figured rosewood table attributed to a design by the esteemed cabinet-making firm of Gillows of Lancaster & London . The figured rosewood rectangular top fitted with a shallow raised 'cock-beaded' mould to the inner edge. The ends each fitted a hinged lidded and silk-lined demi-lune compartment. Fitted with a silk pleated bag beneath on a sliding frame , which opens from both sides of the free-standing table .

Raised on shaped and fretted uprights of vase design and fitted with a central turned bar , onto a platform with shaped scroll feet. The upright ends joined by a central turned stretcher bar of conforming design.

In excellent original condition with rich patination and original polished finish . The demi-line compartments and fabric bag , all recently re-lined and covered in a pink moiré or watered silk fabric.

A well-designed and elegant ladies' sewing table in ready-to-use condition.
