For Sale by Curious Antiques
Description

Stunning quality antique Art Nouveau wood and silver clad Portuguese mantle clock, c1900. It appears to be made of Rosewood or similar and is profusely clad in silver in an Art Nouveau style. There is a Portuguese silver mark of the Boar and it is marked in several places with the makers name - "Leitao and Irmao Lisboa ; Leitao & IR and Artigos Lheieos Dacaroa, Lisboa" They are probably the finest Goldsmiths/Jewellers/Clock Makers in Portugal and one of the best in the world. They were established in the 18th century and have been Crown/Imperial Jewellers/clockmakers to the Portuguese and Brazilian Crown/Imperial House. .I had it checked out by the person who does clock repairs for me and he had it running without any problems so it appears to be working OK. Overall condition is good .There is very minor surface wear in line with age and use and there is a minor repair to the stand at the rear which appears to have been glued. Please refer to the detailed photographs and feel free to contact me with any questions or if you would like to view the item.

Size: 15 wide x 15 cm tall x 3 cm Thick. I will happily ship worldwide.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Nouveau mantel clocks feature organic forms, sinuous whiplash curves, and naturalistic motifs such as stylised foliage, integrated into desktop or mantelpiece timepieces produced between 1890 and 1910.

Silver clad clocks feature thin repousse or stamped sterling silver sheets mounted over a solid timber framework, securing the internal clock movement while showcasing relief metalwork.

Authentic pieces feature stamped hallmarks indicating silver purity, maker marks stamped along the base or borders, period mechanical movements, and consistent aging across both timber and metal elements.

Position the clock on a dark wood sideboard, marble fireplace mantelpiece, or structured bookshelf to allow the contrast between silver metalwork and timber to create a clear focal point.

Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth and polish silver surfaces sparingly using specialised silver cloths to prevent chemical cleaners from damaging adjacent wood or dial lacquers.
