Rue des Fontenelles has dated this piece to the 1920s.
He was born on 28th August 1876 in La Louvière, the industrial area of Hainaut province. He was a student of Antoine Bourlard at the Academy of Mons between 1891 and 1896 and later studied under Albert Baertsoen at NHISKA, the academy of Anvers. He began working in the company of J. Coosemans students in Tervuren.

He painted scenes of Belgian and Holland but he mostly painted in the south of France and Italy. His paintings notably portrayed bays, rivers, canals and bridges.
His work can be found in Royal collections and in the museum of Charleroi, Schaerbeek, Ixelles, Mons, Frankfurt, Bucharest, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, and Brussels. He has also recieved several hounours including the Médaille du Roi Albert, Chevalier de l’Ordre de la Couronne, Chevalier de l’Ordre de Léopold, Chevalier de l’Ordre de Roumanie, Bucarest.
