Pair of Victorian Silver Mounted Dry Mustard and Pepper Jars by Barnard & Sons, London 1870

Description

This is a superb pair of Victorian silver mounted crystal cut glass condiment bottles, one for pepper, the other for dry mustard. Both dated London 1870 and bearing the marks of by the illustrious Barnard & Sons.

The dry mustard jar having a tall glass body sliced-cut with geometric patterns and mounted with a silver domed hinged lid. The hallmarked silver neck with reeded decorations, the jar comes with a Regency period mustard spoon, dated London 1818 and made by Thomas Freeth.

The matching pepper pot glass bottle with identical cut glass decorations, the pierced pull-off silver lid mounted on a fully hallmarked silver neck.

EBW across JBJ for John, Edward, Walter & John Barnard.
