Description

This rug was in my personal collection for many years and was one of my all-time favourite Baluchi rugs. I've had great pleasure from it is time for someone else to enjoy it. This is probably one of the best Bahluli Baluch rugs I've seen over the years, with it fabulous array of vegetable colours - indigo-blue, madder-red, turquoise, pea-green and highlights of natural undyed ivory wool. The aubergine field contains a myriad of 'birds-heads' lozenges interspersed with various symbols and, if you look closely, you will observe a few animal figures. The outer red and inner ivory borders are most attractive having a scroll-like design, which I suspect might symbolise flowing water. The long flat-woven skirts are intact at each end of the rug - a very desirable feature.

The rug is illustrated in the third edition of my book 'Tribal Rugs - Treasures of the Black Tent' on page 126.
