A Large Railway Handbell with Fcca on the Front

1900 - 1920
Description

A large hand bell weighing 1.6kgs with the original finely turned wooden handle and clapper. It measures 31cm in heigh and the base is 15cm in diameter.

We believe the initials FCCA link this bell to the Ferrocarril Central Argentino railway company in Argentina as the initials appeared on their old locomotives in the early 20th Century. The leather or rope strap is missing from the handle but the purpose made hole can be seen clearly.

The bell is made of the traditional phosphorous bell brass that created stronger brass for regular use and this is a slightly different colour than the brass at the lower part of the handle. There are no dark/purple marks on the bell, this is the reflection of surrounding colour with the camera flash!
