Silver Faux Bamboo Sword Stick. London 1846

Description

This sword stick has an ornate faux bamboo silver handle, faux bamboo malacca haft with a square flattened blade and ends in a steel and brass ferrule. It has a registration mark on the handle "33139"

indicating a design registered to Joseph Wilks, 186 Regent Street, London in 1846. Mr Wilks is recorded as a "Loriner" based there from 1837. A Loriner being a maker and seller of horse and carriage tack and metalwork - perhaps this sword stick was made for a coachman.
