A Fine Quality Ormolu French Mantel Clock (Vincenti Paris, C. 1870)

19th century
Description

A fine quality French ormolu, gilt bronze mantel clock with green decorated porcelain panels made by Vincenti of Paris, retailed by Lenoir of Paris, circa 1870.

The ornate case with finely cast detailed mouldings and cornice, surmounted by a classical reclining muse playing a harp, the front and sides set with porcelain plaques, raised on winged claw feet, finely cast caryatids to the corners of the case.

The green porcelain dial with cartouche style Roman numeral chapter ring, profusely decorated with motifs, with further motif decoration to the side panels. Signed to the centre Lenoir a Paris.

The fully restored high quality 8 day twin train spring driven French movement, striking the hours and half hour on a single bell, with brocot regulation, made by the renowned makers Vincenti of Paris.

Engraved to the backplate with the retailers name "Lenoir a Paris" and further Stamped to the backplate Vincenti, Medaille D'Argent and numbered 379.

Delicate Breguet style blued steel hands.

An elegant small sized clock in fine original condition with the movement fully restored to the highest level.

The condition of the case is excellent, with no losses and retaining the original gilded finish.

The dial and side panels are also in excellent condition with no damage.

All of our clock movements are restored by our horologist who works exclusively for us.

Jean Vincenti started his clockmaking workshops before 1823 in Montbeliard, France but went bankrupt a year later, whereupon the clock manufacturer Roux took on the management on his behalf, making the roulant blancs (rough movements) for clockmakers to finish and use.

Vincenti died in 1834 with the clockmaking business that he started continuing to win numerous awards including the Medaille d’Argent (silver medal) in 1855.
