Description

Merio Ameglio (1897-1970 )Paris 1946 Post impressionist
“Les Quais a Paris”
A well observed painting of the quays on the banks of the river Seine in Paris. It is painted with great spontaneity and fluidity, a trade mark of Merio’s technique.
Merio was born in San Remo, Italy in 1897. He moved to Paris in 1938 and established his studio within walking distance of the heart of Montmartre at 23, rue Clauzel. He met many of the avant-garde artists of the time such as Pablo Picasso, Jacques Villon and Jean Paul Francois Galle. Ameglio became a member of the Salons where he became a continuous participant. In 1938 during the International Art Exposition, he won considerable acclaim and was awarded his first honourable mention for the painting, Cathedrale de Rouen.
At the time of his death in 1970, he had produced an abundant collection of colourful canvases of Paris and Montmartre but also of Italy. On October 29, 1969, a year prior to his death, a retrospective exhibition was held in his honour at Galerie Cambaceres in Paris. Merio Ameglio's work is in many private and public collections worldwide.
