Small Oak Writing Desk by James Shoolbred C.1890.

Description

Neat little oak writing desk by the acclaimed London cabinet makers James Shoolbred & Co c.1890. 39" x 24" top with a tan leather writing surface and moulded edge. Over a bank of four drawers of graduated depth plus another longer drawer over the kneehole. With a small cupboard in the left hand end (width 11", depth 19") fitted with a single shelf inside. Raised on short turned feet with brown ceramic castors. Superb quality, typical of this high end maker, with raised panels to the sides and rear with crisp carved and moulded detail, turned front leg and walnut drawer linings. Quality brass handles with pierced backplates (closely matched period replacements to the one long drawer). Stamped for Shoolbred on the top of the long drawer front. Excellent condition, cleaned and polished in our workshops and fitted with a new leather skiver. Key supplied.
