A stunning original antique French clock by Japy Freres.
Porcelain has a blue ground and is delicately painted with a delightful scene of a gentleman and lady with a dog seated in a country setting.

The lower porcelain panel is painted with a tranquil scene of a cottage by a river. and the dial is decorated with delicate flowers and a bird. The clock is complete with it's original gesso base. Unusually the case has the movement serial number impressed to the rear and the porcelain is signed by the artist to the rear along with the serial number. The rear door is glazed with frosted glass.

The French movement is of very high quality as one would expect of Japy Freres. It has the Japy Freres 'Grande Medaille d'Honneur' mark on the movement backplate. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully serviced by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days on one wind and strikes the hours and halves on a bell.

Condition of the case is excellent with a clean and bright finish, there is some very minor wear to the original gilding and some occasional discolouration. The porcelain is in excellent condition with no damage and the vast majority of the over-glaze gilt decoration present. There are losses to the red and white applied 'jewels'. Gesso base is in good condition with wear to the high spots. We have replaced the fabric. This is a fine and very decorative clock to add to your collection.
