An early nineteenth century stipple engraved print of the famous Regency socialite and beauty Mrs Maria Duff. In this full-length portrait, the ethereal Mrs Duff is fashionably dressed in a flowing neo-classical gown creating what was known as “The Empire Silhouette”. Her hair in simple curls and worn high on her head. She steps down from a cloud onto the earth with two putti in attendance, a shawl swirling about her head. A coloured stipple engraving by John Samuel Agar (1796-1835) after a painting by the English artist and Regency portrait painter Richard Cosway, (RA) and published by Rudolf Ackermann in London in 1807 during the reign of George lll.
