Handsome Brass Bound Walnut Jewellery or Desk Box C.1850

Description

Perfect for either a lady or gentleman and a very usable piece whether it be for jewelry or use on the desk top.

Made from beautifully figured Walnut and brass bound in a military or campaign style. There is an inlaid shield shaped cartouche to the top complimenting the brass escutcheon to the front. The box does come with a tasseled key and appears to be working, however sold as a display key as these antique locks can be temperamental.

The interior of the lid has a gold embossed leather panel which opens to store papers or letters. The interior of the box has been beautifully re-lined in a hand-marbled paper. A wonderful showy piece in superb condition, French polished to gleam. Measures 10" x 6 1/2" x 5 1/2" tall.
