Caughley Porcelain Fluted Tea Bowl & Saucer Dresden Flowers C.1785

18th century
Description

A pretty Caughley porcelain tea bowl and saucer, c.1785-1790, with "Dresden flowers" decoration in underglaze blue with the addition of gilding (likely having been outsourced to the Chamberlain factory for the gilding). The centre of each piece has a daisy type flower and the border around the rim has blue circles with gold curve inside each one and gold decoration between each one. The border is framed with a sandwiched wavy band of blue between gold. Both pieces have the blue S mark to the base.

The tea bowl measures 5cm (2") high and 8.5cm (3 3/8") wide. The saucer measures 3cm (1 1/8") high and 14cm (5 1/2") wide. Condition is good: there is a small chip to the inside of the foot rim of the tea bowl and a glaze level only hairline under the saucer (this does not come through the body). Surface wear is light to the tea bowl and bit more to the centre of the saucer, both have a bit of rubbing to the gilding on the rims.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
