19th Century Walnut and Marquetry Credenza

Description

19th Century burr walnut marquetry and gilt metal credenza of exceptional quality, having a lovely shaped and figured top with fine inlay, decorated with a pierced brass gallery, thumb moulded edge with a shaped frieze below with ormolu moulding, the frieze decorated throughout with floral inlay including various figure heads, with two cupboard doors below at the centre which are profusely decorated with marquetry inlay and ormolu beading, each door having a shield shaped marquetry panel depicting various musical instruments, the doors opening to reveal two fixed shelves inside, the cabinet having at either side a mirrored back compartment with two fixed shaped shelves, the side compartments and the two door cupboard having four turned columns decorated with ormolu, the credenza standing on a lovely shaped and inlaid plinth with further ormolu moulding. This piece is in excellent condition and has wonderful detail. Circa 1860.

Martlesham Antiques is a family run business and has been trading since 1984. Located in Suffolk just outside Woodbridge, Martlesham Antiques is run from a spacious thatched cottage housing nine large showrooms with a vast adjacent car park.

Specialising in 18th and 19th Century furniture, together with creating custom hand-made furniture which is supplied to various interior designers, trade and the retail market. Every piece on the showroom floor is in excellent condition and ready to go straight into the buyers home or premises.

All of Martlesham Antiques furniture is hand polished by their own French polishers and restorers to a very high standard. We are also a member of LAPADA, the association of art and antiques.
