In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The top and chain appear to be Silver Gilt. Some of the gilt has worn and rubbed away leaving the silver showing through. However inside the gilt is still very bright especially across the grille.
It is in good condition for its age. There are some general signs of age and use but nothing detrimental. The hinge is good and there are no cracks or damages to the glass. It has been cleaned and gently polished and overall it displays very well.
