17th Century Welsh Oak Housekeepers Hanging Cupboard

This Old and roomy cupboard is made in solid Oak and needless to say it is very heavy, luckily it does come into 2 pieces for transportation

The two carved panels doors enclose a deep cupboard, inside we still have wooden pegs along the back, there is also the addition of an iron hanging rail, this is a 19th Century addition and could be removed if necessary

Each of the doors have 2 panels carved with Celtic Ring pattern, this theme is continued down the sides and also on the lower section which has 3 panels, the centre panel of the lower is very unusual it is 2.5 “ thick. The doors are hung with hand made butterfly hinges, and the doors are secured with hand cut wooden latches, there is brass escutcheon and knob on the front (probably not original)

The Cupboard stands a wavy plinth and has a small cornice at the top, this is a sound and a very good looking piece with an excellent patina, it would work very well as a Hall Wardrobe

The lock of the cupboard is missing and there are as you would expect with a piece of this age a few repairs, they are not very easy to spot and have been done very sympathetically to the age of the piece, There are signs of historic wood worm but we have had this recently treated to make sure it is dead

The cupboard stands 71” high it is 63” wide and 24”deep
