Oriental Camphor Wood and Maple Carved Chest

1900 - 1920
Description

An outstanding Oriental freestanding teak chest deeply carved throughout with detailed scenes of pagodas, bridges, trees, flowers, warriors going into battle, horses and chariots with delicately carved inset maple panels to all four sides and the top. The chest has a domed shaped top and is framed with a beautiful design of vine leaf entwined around bamboo. The chest stands on shaped cabriole legs and retains its original decoratively embossed brass back plate and latch and comes with a lock and key. The interior of the chest is lined in camphor wood which has a lovely aroma and still has its original removable tray.
