Below this are 4 long drawers, each with military style recessed brass handles. The handles are not original but have been on the bureau for some time and suit the piece well.
It is in good condition and has developed a wonderful rich colour. The piece has been thoroughly cleaned and gently polished, retaining the original patina. It is good quality and is made from solid mahogany. The drawers run smoothly and are generally clean and tidy inside. There are some signs of age and use, an old split in the sloped front and some historic repairs but nothing detrimental and overall it displays very well. It is strong and sturdy and ready for use.
