Japanese Lacquer Box and Cover. Meiji Period (1868-1812).

Description

An unusual Japanese lacquered box and cover, Meiji Period (1868 -1912). The square box deeply lacquered to simulate tree bark, the cover similarly decorated, then further lacquered in gilt, with an insect flying above a flowering plant. Set upon four simulated twig feet. The interior and base, in black lacquer.

Width - 15.5 cm, 6 1/8”

Depth - 15.5 cm, 6 1/“.

Height - 6.7 cm, 2 5/8”.

Condition - Excellent. No restoration.
