19th century
Description

~ French - Circa 1890 ~

~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~

A large and superb original antique French Rococo clock, beautifully modelled in gilt bronze. It is of waisted shape, profusely decorated with 'C' scrolls, acanthus leaves, shells and trailing foliage. To the top is an elaborate handled urn.

The dial is porcelain enamel on copper, the hours in segregated panels and a separate minute ring. It is complete with original blued steel hands. The rear door is glazed to allow the movement to be seen.

The French movement is of high quality and is by A. D. Mougin. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. We have a video available of the clock running, please ask.

Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration and there are no losses. The dial is also in excellent condition just some nibbles next to the winding holes.

A.D. Mougin clockmaker's mark on the movement backplate along with the retailers mark of Dumoulinneuf and H.Molle, listed in Tardy, Dictionnaire Des Horologers as working at Rue Turenne from 1870.
