Antique French Venus with Amour and Dog, Superb Ormolu and White Mable Clock Set

A large and exceptional original antique French ormolu and marble Louis XVI style clock set C1900. The beautiful young Venus stands with a small dog, a symbol of fidelity. Amour is represented in the heavens by a putto standing amongst the gilded clouds. It is of the highest quality, finely made of ormolu and white marble and is also large and heavy. Candelabra are conforming in style with branches of acanthus and ovoid marble bodies. the central stems are finished with a crisply modelled bows and pineapple finials.

The dial is porcelain enamel on copper with beautifully cut gilt hands. The rear door is glazed to allow the movement to be seen.

The French movement is by the famous maker Samuel Marti and is the company's usual high quality. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and some slight marks, discolouration and wear on the high spots. The dial is also in excellent condition just some small chips next to the right hand winding hole. Marble is in good condition colour has aged to a mellow cream, there are some slight nibbles to the edges and occasional marks.

Complete with original pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
