Samuel John Lamorna Birch RA,RWS.Landscape artist born Egremont,Cheshire.Although self taught he did spend time at the Atelier Colarossi,Paris 1895-6.He regularly visited Cornwall and worked with Stanhope Forbes at Newlyn,who much influenced his work.He established an excellent reputation exhibiting 227 works at the RA,where he exhibited for 50 consecutive years between 1905 and his death in 1955.Also Exhibited at RWS, the Fine Art Society and the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool.’Spring on the Higher waters of the Wharfedale’ signed watercolour dated 1950,image size 25x35cms,framed size 40x50cms. provenance : with Clarges Gallery,Walton St,London SW3 and apparently according to typed label verso First Exhibited RWS,Spring Show, no 98,1950
