A rare longcase clock of small proportions by William Boot c1760.
The Oak case is beautifully proportioned and is showing its age well having its original hinges and wooden finials to the hood. The case standing at 184cm high.
The 30 hour movement is typical of this area when compared to nearby clockmakers having the cut out to the base of the clock plates and "bullnose" collets. The movement has been fully overhauled by me personally and comes with a full three years guarantee for your peace of mind.
The 11" cast brass dial having scrollwork spandrels to the corners and hand engraved centre detailing his name and the place Sutton (Sutton in Ashfield). The silvered chapter ring is clean and scratch free and sets of the original blued hands well.
William Boot (1735) was a member of a famous clockmaking family being the son of John Boot 1705-1767, and the brother to his sister Elizabeth (1726) and John Jnr (1730) both accomplished clockmakers in there own right. This clock has to predate 1775 when William went into partnership with John Jnr and their clocks then had both names on dials together.
a rare opportunity to acquire a good clock from this maker to either add to your collection or take pride and place in the home.
