The uniformity of the stag horns chosen to mount this unusual carved mahogany deers'' head and the robust fixing points suggest to me this may have been a decorative rack for a hunting rifle (s). The carving has Chinese or Persian influences but the mahogany deer''s head is more reminiscent of eurpopean design & craftmanship - I would suggest that this was ''possibly'' the product of a collaboration between the two, possibly for a country house or colonial client.A part of the one of the ears has been replaced and one re-attached. There are also early witness marks between the eyes of a previous fixing point. However the head''s colour is particularly attractive as is the horns patina.
