Brian MacDonald Antique Rugs & Carpets has dated this piece to the 1900s.
The weaver not only produced one interesting face, but two very interesting faces! I love them both - one face with reciprocal 'birds-heads' symbolising the guardians of the gates of Paradise - the other face with its striking vertical border patterns - all with glowing, saturated vegetable colours.

This was a very important little bag to the weaver who must have treasured it for it to remain in such excellent overall condition - possibly made as a dowry piece. Small antique vanity-bags in this sort of condition are now extremely rare.
