Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Masons Ironstone was patented by Charles James Mason in 1813 in Staffordshire, England. Developed as a durable, dense alternative to costly imported European and Chinese porcelain, it became renowned for vibrant transfer-printed and hand-enamelled designs inspired by Japanese Imari and Chinese motifs.

Victorian ironstone was produced using a mixture of pulverized flint, slag, clay, and feldspar fired at high temperatures to achieve a vitreous body. Pieces were typically decorated with underglaze cobalt transfer printing, overglaze enamel painting, and finished with hand-applied gilding.

Authentic pieces generally feature impressed or printed backmarks on the base, such as Masons Patent Ironstone China alongside crown emblems. Authentication also involves assessing the weight of the ceramic, the depth of cobalt glazing, and traditional hand-gilded embellishments.

Antique ceramic jugs function well as decorative focal points when positioned on sideboard tops, open bookshelves, or fireplace mantels. They are frequently repurposed as vessels for dried botanical displays or placed within curated tabletop vignettes alongside books and brass objects.

Gilded ironstone ceramics should be washed by hand using warm water and a mild detergent. Avoid abrasive pads, chemical cleaners, and dishwashers, as harsh washing can strip overglaze enamel painting and delicate gold leaf highlights.
