Description

William IV mahogany and leather desk armchair c.1830. Of a style known as a cockfighting chair, the shaped seat and lack of arm supports allows the chair to be sat on backwards with the chest and arms rested against the backrest (evidently ideal for watching two birds fight). A splendid example of the form with the buttoned leather backrest raised on carved and pierced supports and with lovely carved acanthus leaf terminals. Over a large sprung seat with a deep thumb moulded edge below raised on sturdy turned and reeded legs with the original while pot castors with unusual shaped brass collars. Excellent condition, recently upholstered in a good quality bottle green leather. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
