Maple & Co Edwardian Serpentine Mahogany Sideboard

1900 - 1920
Description

Maples serpentine mahogany sideboard

This Maples serpentine mahogany sideboard was made circa 1910. It was constructed in the workshop of Maple & Co. who were prestigious cabinetmakers as well as retailers. They supplied Royalty as well as the higher echelons of British society, after gaining the reputation of selling high quality furnishings.

They had in the late 19th. century the largest furniture showrooms in the world, with stores not only in Tottenham Court Road but also Paris and in the day even Buenos Aires when it was a very wealthy powerhouse in South America.

The sideboard or it could be classed as a side cabinet is of the elegant serpentine shape.

At the centre of the frieze is a superb panel of fine carving.

It stands on glorious superbly carved claw and ball legs with beautiful shells to the knees.

The pair of doors open to reveal a large area for storage with a middle shelf. Even the interior has been fully French polished, another sign of this being a high-quality piece.

Imagine how good this will look in your home, it can be used for so many uses, whether it be a smart drinks cabinet, a sideboard, good storage for a dinner service or in a hall or drawing room.
