Victorian Walnut Writing Slope Box with Key

19th century
Description

A lovely Victorian walnut writing slope with its original working lock and key. It has a brass escutcheon and matching brass cartouche on the top of the box. Inside, the box is fitted with a good quality dark leather writing surface with a gold tooled edge. It comes with a glass inkwell and a pen tray. Both top and bottom sections of the leather surface lift up to reveal extra storage space below.

The box is in good condition for its age with a beautiful patina and displays very nicely. The leather writing surface is in good condition although it is worn along the crease and missing its pull tabs. There are some general signs of age and use, some minor knocks and light scuffs but nothing untoward or detrimental. Overall the box displays very well.
