Description

An exceptionally rare C19th Howard and Sons reclining daybed of very unusual form. The high padded seat back with shaped wings and armrests having a brass pull handle to the reverse to recline the articulated back in various positions from upright to totally flat. The foot end recling in the same manner. All upholstered in its original monogrammed Howard ticking. Raised on mahogany square tapering legs, stamped "Howard & Sons Ltd Berners St" and serial numbers. Retaining the original brass castors stamped "Howard & Sons London". The underside of the daybed with original stencilled Howard hessian and the central support bar with an original Howard paper label.

Provenance: A Scottish castle for which Howard were almost certainly commissioned to make this unique piece for a discerning clients requirements.

As expected from Howard, a very comfortable daybed.

Good untouched original condition. Ticking with distressing commensurate of age and use.
