Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Ironstone china was patented in 1813 by Charles James Mason in Staffordshire, England, as a durable, heavy-earthenware alternative to imported porcelain. It gained widespread commercial success due to its strength, vibrant enamelled patterns, and distinctive Chinoiserie-inspired decoration.

These vessels were press-moulded or slip-cast using a dense clay mix containing slag, feldspar, and flint to prevent chipping. After an initial firing, polychrome enamels and gold leaf gilding were hand-applied and fired again at lower temperatures to fix the painted details and pierced lid motifs.

Authentic pieces feature impressed or printed manufacturer marks on the base, such as Masons Patent Ironstone China alongside crown emblems. Additionally, authentic items exhibit substantial physical weight, precise moulded features like gilt handles, and detailed hand-painted overglaze enamel work.

Display the vessel as a focal decorative object on a sideboard, fireplace mantelpiece, or within a formal bookcase. The rich polychrome palette pairs well with polished mahogany, dark oak, or neutral plaster backgrounds to create visual contrast.

Dust surfaces regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth to remove atmospheric residue. Avoid soaking or using chemical detergents, as moisture and abrasive cleaners can wear down delicate overglaze enamel and gilded accents.
