Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Masons Patent Ironstone China was patented in Staffordshire, England in 1813 as a durable alternative to imported Chinese porcelain. Patterns influenced by Japanese Imari motifs, such as the Japan Fence design, were produced throughout the 19th century featuring cobalt blue, iron-red, and burnished gilded detailing.

Ironstone is a vitreous pottery made from clay, slag, and flint fired at high temperatures to produce a dense, durable body. Decorative patterns were typically created using transfer printing combined with hand-applied enamel colours and hand-gilded borders.

Authentic 19th-century ironstone pieces demonstrate substantial physical weight, a smooth glaze with a slight blue tint, and maker marks or backstamps on the underside. Raised detailing, such as beaded rims, and hand-painted enamelling over transfer lines are also key identifiers.

Pairing decorative ironstone candlesticks on a dining table, sideboard, or mantelpiece creates visual interest through traditional pattern and contrasting colour. Positioning them against neutral backgrounds or dark timber surfaces emphasizes the orange and cobalt hues.

Clean ironstone with warm water, mild liquid detergent, and a soft cloth without immersing the object in water for extended periods. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scrubbers, and keep gilded areas dry to preserve the metallic finish.
