A fine quality portrait of a horse and his rider, a beautiful gelding about to be tacked up. The gentleman is most definitely of a particular individual, fine clothes, the hats looks as though it has a Military influence.
Alfred Frank de Prades was born in France and specialised in equestrian sketches, on moving to England his works were exhibited at The British Institute 1858-1867 and Crystal Palace. He painted The Prince of Wales Horse ‘Fair Play’ He also painted a number of British, Russian and Spanish Military Equestrian subjects.
His works are quite rare and sought after by collectors of fine equestrian art.
Good condition, relined many years ago, oil on canvas, signed lower left, presented within a later quality gilt gesso frame. This would be a pleasure to own.
