Youngs Antiques has dated this piece to the 17th Century.
His face having chiseled features with a stern expression. He is dressed wearing a heavy robe with a buttoned under garment and a crisp white colour.
The painting itself is brilliantly painted and is in excellent condition.
There is one very small nick out of the painting in the bottom right hand corner. The canvas has never been relined and is still on its original stretcher. There are lovely hand cut nails down either side of the stretcher. At some stage someone had stapled the top and bottom on the canvas where the nails are located, to re-tighten the portrait.
The painting could do with a good clean as it is very dirty or can be left as it is ,in its country house state.
The painting sizes is 25" (63.5cm) x 30" (76.2)
