A Rocking Ship Longcase by Preddy, Langport

19th century
Description

A Somerset Georgian period longcase clock with rocking ship. A walnut case with rosewood crossbanding of pale colour. A swan neck hood pediment with brass patterae and an original central brass finial. Brass capped hood columns. An arched painted dial with ship automaton and coastal scene. A date aperture and seconds dial. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell.

William Preddy of Langport is recorded in A J Moores ' 'Watchmakers and Clockmakers of Somerset' book as working from 1822-1839. He moved to Bridgwater in 1839. A rocking ship is illustrated in the book.
