Description

A stunning French Art Deco spelter panther set on a marble base, signed in the marble D.H.Chiparus (1886-1947) . Circa 1930. This sculpture is in very good condition with a good patination and a very impressive size.

Demetre Haralamb Chiparus 1886-1947

Born in Dorohoi Romania on September 16th 1886. In 1909 he went to Florence, Italy where he attended classes of an Italian sculptor Raffaello Romanelli. Moving to Paris when he was 20 yrs old and studied at the Ecole des Beaux- Arts under Mercie and Boucher. He exhibited at the salon des Artistes Francais from 1914 to 1928 winning numerous awards.

He produced wonderful pieces using materials including bronze and Ivory, bronze, spelter, terracotta and plastar.

He is regarded as one of the most talented and highly skilled artists and most iconic of the Art Deco period
