Magnificent Edward & Roberts Victorian wind-out extending dining table in golden quarter-sawn oak and with seven leaves. In the Jacobean Revival style this large 54in wide table smoothly extends from 7ft 4.5in to 20ft using a double Joseph Fitter ‘screw expander’ mechanism allowing it to seat up to 22-24 people. The rounded rectangular top has a moulded and channeled edge and carved frieze below with super leaf carvings to the leg blocks and brackets, stands on six substantial cup & cover shaped legs heavily carved with acorn, oak and acanthus leaves and concealed castors.Sympathetically cleaned and repolished using traditional methods, medullary rays from the quarter-sawn cut of the oak produce the attractive ‘tiger grain’ pattern, some marks, wear & fading consistent with age.
