Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian silver tankards are lidded or open drinking vessels crafted in Great Britain during the reigns of King George I through King George IV between 1714 and 1830. They typically feature tapered or bell-shaped bodies, sturdy handles, and official hallmarks denoting silver purity, maker, and city of assay.

These vessels were hand-hammered from sterling silver, an alloy comprising 92.5 per cent pure silver mixed with copper for structural durability. Decorative elements were traditionally added using chasing and repousse raised techniques, accompanied by cast scroll handles and hinged covers.

Authentic pieces carry a complete set of British hallmarks, including the lion passant for sterling standard, a makers mark, a town mark, and a date letter. Structural indicators include visible hand-hammering marks, period-appropriate solder lines, and natural wear along contact points.

An antique silver tankard can be displayed as an accent piece on a sideboard, arranged on a bookshelf alongside leather-bound volumes, or placed as a central accent on a mantelpiece.

Clean antique silver periodically using a mild, non-abrasive silver polish applied with a soft cotton cloth to remove oxidisation without stripping delicate chasing details. Store the item in a dry, low-humidity environment away from direct ambient heat.
