Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Nouveau lighting, popular from roughly 1890 to 1910, is defined by organic, asymmetrical lines inspired by nature. Designs frequently incorporate stylized plants, sweeping tendrils, flowers, and insect forms executed in cast or wrought metal.

Sconces from this period were typically cast in brass, bronze, or spelter, often finished with gilding, patination, or lacquering. Candle sockets were fitted with cardboard or glass sleeves designed to resemble beeswax candles.

Authentic items display casting seams, chasing details, and age-consistent oxidisation on hidden surfaces. Original fixtures often show evidence of early gas fittings or early two-wire electrical conversions within cast channels.

Pair sconces can be mounted on either side of a contemporary mirror, framed artwork, or architectural alcove to provide balance. They serve as sculptural accent pieces when fitted with low-wattage dimmable LED bulbs.

Clean surfaces using a soft, dry microfibre cloth to prevent scratching the original finish. Avoid liquid polishes, abrasives, or chemical cleaners, which strip lacquers and gilded layers; rewiring should always be undertaken by a qualified electrician.
