In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
Inside, the box is fully lined with plush purple velvet and has a fitted lift out tray with various fitted sections and a section below the tray for storing larger pieces. The lock is stamped 'Bramah', a top maker of the time, and it comes with its original working key.
The box is in good condition for its age. It has been well used but well looked after and has retained its natural aged look. The outer has some small age related knocks and scuffs but nothing detrimental. It would have originally had a plaque on the top which is now missing. Inside it is generally clean and tidy and overall it displays very well and is certainly a nice usable item.
