Georgian Mercury Wheel Barometer a Corti, London

19th century
Description

A Georgian period mercury wheel barometer. A mahogany case with an architectural pediment and brass central finial. Marquetry shell inlays to the case. A long engraved silvered dial. The main dial is engraved 'A CORTI FECIT'. Circa 1820.

A Corti is recorded in Banfields 'Barometer Makers and Retailers' book as working in London from 1810-1840 at 7 Grenville Street. There is also a maker of the same name in Glasgow but his working dates are later.
