Description

The pieces of this exceptional, antique Victorian straight*, sterling silver canteen of cutlery for twelve persons have been crafted in King's pattern.
The reverse of each spoon and fork features a union shell and diamond heel in addition to convex shell ornamentation to the terminal.
The anterior surface of each piece bears the contemporary bright cut engraved initials 'GM' below a coronet.
This Kings pattern canteen of cutlery consists of 62 pieces:
Basic Service:
12 Table forks
12 Table spoons
12 Dessert forks
12 Dessert spoons
12 Teaspoons
Additional Pieces:
Pair of sauce ladles
The components of this antique Victorian service have been crafted by the renowned London female silversmith Mary Chawner in 1837.
This flatware service can be purchased with King's pattern knives if so desired; for further information please contact Andrew Campbell directly at enquiries@acsilver.co.uk.
This exceptional sterling silver English cutlery set is fitted to the original oak wood lift up lid canteen box with lift out tray; due to the loss of the 6 dessert knives and sifter ladle, the box has vacant and versatile storage compartments.
The box features a brass cartouche to the upper surface ornamented with the initials 'RLM' below a coronet.
* "Straight" means all the pieces are made by the same maker in the same year.
Condition
This antique Kings pattern canteen of cutlery is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.
The King's pattern ornamentation is very sharp.
The original presentation box has been professionally polished by a cabinet maker; the lid to the box is very slightly warped and does not close in position.
Full hallmarks struck to the reverse of each piece are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptiona gauge of silver.
Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this fine and impressive Kings pattern cutlery service.
