Stunning Aesthetic Movement Carved & Inlaid Bamboo and Engraved Silver-Plated Jug
Aesthetic Movement jug conveying the European interest and passion for Japonism in the late nineteenth century.

This is a very interesting design with nice decorative detail very much with a flavour of Dr. Christopher Dresser.
This wonderful piece formed from a large stem of bamboo (there are three splits) and carved to a high standard and inlaid with pewter/gilded birds to create this quintessential Aesthetic presentation jug. The splits do not affect the pure beauty of this one-off original.
Engraved to the lid with "Barnes & Mortlake Regatta 1881 Junior Fours" "Won by Ealing RC" with the names of the rowers around the rim.
The only indication of a maker is the number "11" under the lid and "T11" to the base rim, which is amazing given the sheer quality of this piece which must have cost a small fortune to commission back then.
The most attractive and original aesthetic item I have ever had the pleasure of owning.
