Description

A good mid 17th century Oak four panel Coffer, the hinged four panel lid above a fluted frieze and four panel front, the sides with two panels each and the back again four panels, all raised on the original stiles.

This form of fluting or nulling, a series of niches with rounded tops resembling a row of small arches or rather a row of Norman window set high in the clearstory of a church, is an early device which declined in the second half of the 17th. Century.

Circa: 1650
