Early 20th.c. Museum Display Cabinet C.1920.

1900 - 1920
Description

Fabulous quality large early 20th.c. museum display cabinet of interesting provenance c.1920. Walnut framed display cabinet, glazed on all sides and the top (internal dimensions width 52?, depth 21?, height 47?), raised on a splendid three foot tall panelled and moulded plinth, also in walnut. Designed to stand in a centre of a gallery with an attractive Classical style frieze of laurel swags and ribbons around each side of the cornice. Full width double doors to one of the longer sides with original locks and latches. Fitted inside with later glass shelf and mirror floor (easily removed). Raised and fielded panels to the base with crisp mouldings and tall stepped base. Excellent condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Key supplied.

This cabinet is believed to have originally stood in the Lady Lever art gallery and museum in Port Sunlight near Liverpool where it doubtless held some of the remarkable treasures of Lord Leverhulme’s collection of decorative art. Though we have not found any identifying marks similar size cabinets with the exact same Classical frieze can still be found in use at the gallery today.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
