Elmgarden has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
The Cassone has carved arched panels decorated with Geometric Mouldings on the front and it has a shaped base with bracket like feet, the top of this piece is 3” thick in places, it is a heavy and sturdy piece
There is a large Key Hole the front with an Iron Escutcheon, when the lid is closed the box is locked, fortunately we do have the key.
Inside there is an old lock, this, the hinges and handles were probably made by a gunsmith, all in full working order, and there is a candle box to one side
The cassone is 51” long, 20” deep and 28” high
